The Average Wedding
My beloved one-and-only sister is a few short days away from
getting married. I personally know over a half-dozen other
couples who also tied the knot this year. Summers are
apparently the most popular time for weddings, and now that
this summer is drawing to a close, what better time to take a
look at some interesting statistics about weddings in the
United States.
After a bit of research, I've gotten the figures together. How
old is the average soon-to-be married couple? How much does
the average wedding cost? What is the most common month for
weddings? All of these questions are answered.
If everything about a wedding happened according to the
averages, here is how it would go:
The groom is 27, and his bride is 25. They will invite 178
people to their wedding. The wedding budget is around $20,000,
and the rings cost $1,016. Most guests will spend between $70
and $100 on their wedding gift, and a gift registry is used.
The wedding takes place in June.
The honeymoon costs the newlyweds $3,657, about triple what
they'd spend for any other vacation. They will spend 7 to 9
days in the Caribbean. If the honeymoon is in the United
States, the newlyweds will go to Las Vegas or Hawaii.
There are more interesting statistics on weddings. About 2.3
million of them occur every year in the United States, which
averages out to over 6,100 marriages each day. Around 33% of
couples getting married have been married before. The least
common month for weddings, by far, is January followed by
March. The most common are June, August, July, September, and
October, in that order.
For those of you who have gotten recently married, and those,
including my sister, who plan on getting married soon, I wish
you all the best.
