Submission Guidelines
-
Stories must be 500 words or less. Any story exceeding the 500-word limit will
automatically be
disqualified.
-
We now accept submissions
and payments via regular mail or online. If you are paying by mail,
-
Each
entry fee is $5 USD, and you may enter as many stories as you like.
-
The
entry fee is payable through PayPal. If you do not have a PayPal account, there
is a link at the bottom of the page that will take you to PayPals
enrollment page. And, you may now mail in a check or money
order. See directions at the bottom of the page.
-
The
work must be your own. If your submission is a reprint, the original publisher
must be given credit for discovering your greatness.
That information will be collected at the end of the contest, along with your
biography.
-
Entries will be judged based on style, originality,
technical skills, and content. Proofread your work, if you want to win.
-
Write
about any topic, any genre! As long
as you follow the preceding guidelines, your story is what we want to read.
-
Judging will be done by the Whim's Place editors and one
special judge.
-
International entries are welcome, provided PayPal accepts
your currency for conversion.
Note: Contestants are not required to give
up any rights to their story to win. Whim's Place will request first or
subsequent (Yes, we do except reprints.) North American rights for
electronic and/or paperback anthology rights, but acceptance is not contingent
on winning. While we like to think everyone shares our pride in Whim's Place,
the point of the contest is predominantly to recognize and reward the creators
of quality flash fiction.
